Do you enjoy Eurovision as much as I do? Have you heard every song that's ever been performed?
All 1795 of them?
If you said yes, I commend you on your lie-telling — as 13 of them from 1956 are lost to time, and we'll never know how they sound.
Anyway, the point of this little web app is to give all of us Eurovision dorks somewhere to listen to and rate every song we can find links to. Then we can finally see, once and for all, what the best ever song was — and whether the winners from each year really were the favourites.
First things first: you'll need to sign up and make an account. This stops people from voting over and over on the same song.
"People who fudge the data are big stinky buttheads." – Lys Assia (probably)
Once you've done that, you can click the "Rate" button near the top of the page to get your first song. If a YouTube video is available, it will show up there. If it can't be embedded, just click the little YouTube button and it'll take you to the right place. If there are Spotify or Apple Music links, you can click those too and add the songs to your playlists. That's the best way to show someone how cool you are.
If you've seen Eurovision before, you'll know the rating scale. If not: 12 is the best, 0 is the worst. Since we're all lovely here, I'm not going to force you to give only one of each score per year. If a year is full of 12s, then vote away! I might add something down the line to let you refine your scores if you really want to stick to the strict scale — but that's not how it works for now.
Once you click Submit, you'll see a confirmation screen where you'll then be able to rate another song. It generates songs randomly, but remembers what you've already scored — so there won't be any repeats.
After you've ranked a few, be sure to check out the My Ratings and Global Ratings sections to see how your scores compare with the WHOLE WIDE WORLD!
Otherwise, if anything breaks, do let me know and I'll try to get it fixed. My email is mystylakes@gmail.com. If you think that's a strange email, just bear in mind that I am merely a simple, foggy body of water.
